Release of Study on Socio-Culture in Saxony

Socioculture is an indispensable part of the cultural landscape. It builds bridges, opens doors, and creates spaces for encounters among different milieus in our diverse society.

The numbers and facts from the inventory of sociocultural institutions in Saxony, Germany, impressively confirm this. Over 650 permanent employees, 930 freelancers, more than 430 volunteers, and around 1,500 volunteers have implemented over 21,000 regular, participatory sociocultural activities with approximately 380,000 visitors. In 2022, 464,000 people attended individual events.

I had the opportunity to present these figures together with Prof. Dr. Haselbach from the Zentrum für Kulturforschung Berlin at the 6th conference of the sociocultural association of the federal state of Saxony, on November 7th and 8th, 2023, in Leipzig. It was a pleasure to contribute to making socioculture visible – a symbiosis of culture and social engagement that also represents a significant regional economic factor.
